Translate Text on the Web

A Web-based translator like Google Language Tools can help you decide if a non-English document you have found--in a library database or on the Web--would be worth adding to your reference list. Google Language Tools can translate Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Spanish, French, Russian, Portuguese, German, Italian, Japanese, and Korean.
All you need to do is copy and paste the text you want to translate into the Translate Text box and choose the language you want to translate from and to. Or you can paste in a URL if the document is freely available on the Web.
NOTE: This type of resource only gives you a basic translation of words, it is not going to be perfect or address the subtleties of language. If you find an article in another language and want pursue a better translation, try posting your request to the Community Web to see if someone in our community knows the language. You can always ask an ITP Librarian for further help.
